BeckerArt FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter March 22nd One Color
Published: Tue, 03/22/22
Hello
Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #357
I am back home at my studio and getting ready to head back out this weekend to the Kanuga Watermedia Workshops, near Ashville NC.
I will be taking a workshop called Paint With Friends. a classroom for the students to use with no teacher. This is such a great venue and makes one feel like they are going to summer camp or spring break for artists.
ATTENTION! Because of me being at the Kanuga Watermedia Workshop, there will be NO NEWSLETTER or PAINT-A-LONG next week the 29th or 31st! Have a great spring break that week and I will start it up again the following week in April.
Yes to Class at the Civic Center in Libertyville March 24th 1pm to 3:30pm
Yes to Class at The Studio in McHenry, March 26th 9am to 11:30am
Email me at Beckerart@gmail.com for any info you may need about my classes or workshops.
4 Weeks of Color Limits
I know we have done this exercise before but because I have a bunch of new students following along with my newsletter and paint-a-longs I feel we should all do it again... it is a great way to learn about colors and values. What we will be doing is painting a one color painting this week and the following week we add another color, followed by 3 colors and then back to full color the 4th week. There will be a break the second week as I
mentioned above. If you need something to paint that week I would recommend painting another one color study.
When you pick your one color to use this week I suggest that you make it a very dark color so you can have a wide range of values from light to really dark.
When working a one color painting it will be a lot like sketching up a value study, but instead of using a graphite pencil or gray marker you will be using watercolor paint.
I picked a scene that didn't have much color to begin with. If you use a colored photo to do a one color painting, I would suggest turning it into a black and white or sepia photo printout. It will make it a lot easier to see the value instead of the colors.
Paint-a-long Details: the paint-a-long this week will be done on Stonehenge Aqua 300lb Cold Press using Holbein Watercolors. We will be painting this watercolor in one color... I suggest a dark color so you can span a lot of different values.
