As I was out Plein-air painting last week I was constantly using my smart phone to take photos of scenes I would want to
paint later in the studio. Then when I sat down to paint plein-air I realized that I could also use my phones camera as a viewfinder to frame in the scene like I would usually do with a slide mount or a piece of cardboard with a rectangle cut out of it. But with a cardboard view finder I would always have to look through it as I was drawing to mark the angles and large shapes. With the camera I could snap the shot to frame the scene and then just replay it as I set up the phone close to my
painting and then look at it to compare it to the original scene as I was sketching it live.
