Hello from chilly Florida... yes it is definitely better then the weather back home in Illinois. I am working at The Villages Art Workshops and having a great time here. Sunday we did a paint party for 35 artists, crazy fun! Just started the watercolor workshop today and Tuesday, then Wednesday and Thursday I do the watercolor/gouache Class. Heading over to St Augustine on the weekend and will start the 3 day workshop there. Still spots available for that workshop.

When I get back home in 2 weeks I will start a new weekly Wednesday morning watercolor class at Mainstreet Art Center in Lake Zurich on Feb, 7th to take over for the great instructor Cheryl Cook (Cookie). More info to come.

This weekend as I was thinking about what I should write about in this week's newsletter I headed over to YouTube to search for art instructors and look to see what many were teaching. I have watched many James Gurney videos in the past and this video below popped up in my feed. As I was watching it I thought it may not be about watercolor but many of his teachings in this video apply to what we have been doing the last couple of weeks. James works mostly in Casein and Gouache and sometimes starts in watercolor. He has some amazing videos!

In this video I like how he talks about how to light a subject even when there is no sunlight in the scene. Check it out below.
