Hello
Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #482
How much do you like painting outdoors? I know many of you don't like it, but if you start with just sketching and then work your way up to full painting
I think it could grow on you. What a great week I had in St Charles last week. I'm sorry that I did not do a Sunday Demo with David last Sunday. I have been extremely busy with the St Charles Plein-air event.
I was very honored to have won 2nd place at the St Charles Plein-air event. There were so many good artists participating. Meeting these artists made this plein-air event so much
fun. Seeing all the different styles and mediums is just plein wonderful. If you have never tried to enter a plein-air event I highly recommend them. There is so much good that comes out of them.
The piece above was the second place painting. Below is me starting to paint the scene. This drawing took close to an hour to draw up and took 3 1/2 hours to paint and I had to come back a second day for the finishing touches.

When it comes to finding reference materials for my classes I normally get those images from websites that have royalty-free or public domain images. I do recommend that you go out and photograph your own reference and even paint plein-air when possible. But if you are in need of instant references there are many places on the web that you can use.
Many of the photograph sites like UnSplash.com give you photos but if you are looking for museum collections I have found that many of the biggest museums give you open access to most of their works, so if you are looking to paint the masters these are great places on the web to use because all
their works are royalty-free and public domain.
The list below is just a few of the main museums I looked up... there are tons more.
Available Here Here is the wax again that I use on my watercolors to protect them and lets me mount them into oil painting frames. Do remember to mount your paper on a panel before framing.
Artist of the Week
Anders Zorn Here is one of those masters that I feel was one of the best... his watercolors were amazing!
