BeckerArt FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter September 8th

Published: Tue, 09/08/15

Hello

Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #19

Thank you, goes out to all the people that wrote to me last week wondering how I was after they heard about Lt Gliniewicz, of Fox Lake. For those that don't know, I grew up in the area of Fox Lake and went to Grant High School. This tragedy hit very close to home.
It was so weird that the image I used last week for my newsletter was of a police officer.
I put together the newsletter on Monday and on Tuesday I sent it out before Lt Gliniewicz was Killed. Many people in my community of Fox Lake who I have as friends on facebook saw the painting and thought I put it up because of what happen and many told me it was a nice tribute. That wasn't the case but then I decided to post it again since people thought it was a nice tribute. I also decided I would donate that painting to a charity that helps the Gliniewicz family.

This week's newsletter is about limited color paintings and how it helps you when learning to paint light and dark value patterns.

Don't forget the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild is holding their Demonstration /Meeting this coming Thursday. More info below.

Next Sunday the 13th you can find me painting in Rockford at The Anderson Japanese Gardens painting at the Capture on Canvas Event. More info below.

There will be classes both Thursday and Saturday this week.... see you there!

Happy Painting!
David

Use a Limited Palette of Color
Why should you use only one or two colors when learning to paint, because it will help you to see values of light and dark in your paintings, making it so you don't have to worry about what colors to use. It also helps you see the composition of light and dark more clearly.

When you jump back to painting with color make sure you don't forget how important the lights and darks are when creating good composition. Your painting should have a large light and dark pattern to hold the composition together. Think of your painting being black and white, then add color to make it come to life.

Copy a masters work in limited color.
I copied the image above of an Andrew Wyeth painting because many of his paintings are done in a limited palette.
