Hello

Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #48 Video Demo

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!

The last couple of months I have been working hard to bring this newsletter some video tips and demonstrations. I think I have most everything set-up so you will be seeing more videos here as we head into spring and summer. I am starting out with a video I took at a demonstration I did with Holbein fluid acrylics for the Northland Area Art League, in Woodstock IL.

I am bringing back a few reminders from last week's newsletter.

This week I am posting a video for you to watch. This is a demonstration that I gave to The Northland Area Art League a couple of weeks ago.

I left out the audio so I could speed up the video from 1 hour to 8 minutes.

This is not a watercolor demonstration but a Holbein Fluid Acrylic painting.

I want you to notice the steps I took from beginning to end along with the brush handling.

Pay close attention to how I block in large areas when doing a city scene. I don't start by painting single objects, paint large areas of light and dark.

Notice that I paint from light to dark, the background is lighter and less intense in color and the foreground has more color and more darks and contrast.

The best part about painting fluid acrylics like watercolor is that when you are painting over a first wash , that first wash does not lift up and mix with the second wash which keeps both washes very fresh and not muddy looking.

The worst part about painting fluid acrylics like watercolor is that you can not scrub out once the wash has dried.

Use the right brush for the job. Watch how I handle the brush.

Art For the Paws
Here is a 6" x 6" acrylic painting that I donated to an event called "Art For the Paws"
For the next 11 days you can bid on my painting or 100s of other paintings to help out Helping Paws Animal Shelter.  Check out my work HERE  Check out the other works HERE
