Apps For Artists
I believe most artists these days have become somewhat  familiar with social media sites and apps like Facebook and Twitter. Today I want to talk to you about some of the other wonderful applications (apps) out there.

There are so many helpful apps out there and they are either free or cost very little, and this is why I recommend you download some of them and see which apps work best for you. Back before there were these apps you would have had to spend big money buying computer programs to do many of the things that you can now use a simple app to do. These new apps can now do things for much cheaper and sometimes even do it better than the old programs.

Most apps now work on both IOS (Apple) and Android (Google Play) and most of the time they are pretty close to handling the same on both systems, so it really doesn't matter which smartphone or tablet you own.

Here are a few apps that I use and a few I don't use at the moment but am looking to try. If you have an app that you use and would like to share, please email me the app and I will be putting it in my newsletter to share with others in coming newsletters.

List of APPS:
  • Instagram : This is probably one of the most popular apps that artists use. You can use it to manipulate your photos and then market and add your work to social media sites.
  • Autodesk Sketchbook : here is a drawing app that many professional artists use. you can get the free version or the pro version (Pro version will cost you).
  • Sketch Guru : this app lets you turn your color photos into sketches, watercolors and a few other styles instantly.
Fun way to see what your photo would look like in B&W or as a pen and ink drawing. See below for an example.
  • Square : Probably one of the most important apps I have. Get payment for your work anywhere at anytime. I use it to sell my work and get payment through Credit cards. A most have for artists.
There are others like Paypal and Intuit, but I prefer The Square.
  • Procreate : I'm hearing that Procreate is as good or even better then Sketchbook. I haven't given it a try so if you have let us know.
  • Artnear : If you are looking for an artist or museum around the world, this app is for you.
  • Pinterest : Of course you know about Pinterest, but this is probably one of the best apps to have on your phone or tablet for getting your work recognized. If you can get people to pin your work you will be golden. Pinterest is now also selling ad space.
  • Etsy : Yes Etsy has an app and sooner or later you will probably be selling on Etsy.

Below is a photo I took this weekend of the point at Dillman's Bay in Lac Du Flambeau, where by the way, I will be doing a workshop at next month. Info and sign-up here

Under the original photo are 2 other pictures of what I did to this photo with the SketchGuru App.
This app is great for giving you creative ideas on how you can interpret this image into a painting or sketch or even give you a good value study of lights and darks.
