BeckerArt FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter October 24th, Brain Games

Published: Tue, 10/24/17

Hello

Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #128, Brain Games

First things first, I first need to apologies for last week's newsletter because I did not proof-read it.
I couldn't believe how many misspellings I made and how many times my grammar was off. My only excuse was that I rushed the newsletter the night before and I was up very late and just sent it without re-reading it the next morning. I can't guarantee it will be the last time this happens but I will try my hardest to make this newsletter as professional as possible.

Last week I was very excited to get back to all my weekly classes after being away for a month. It was great to see my weekly students and teach them all I had learned while away on my workshops. As a teacher I am always looking for new ways to teach my students new and wonderful lessons that will help them to get better and become that artist they work so hard to become.

This week's newsletter talks about a streamed TV series that I want to recommend to you.

Brain Games
About a year ago I was scrolling through many TV and movie listings on Netflix to find something to watch. That evening I came across a show called Brain Games and after watching the first episode I was hooked. Of course I liked it so much that I started binge watching it and ended up watching the entire series in a couple of days. About a week ago I came across the show again and saw that they have added many more episodes. This time I am watching them one by one on different days because I want to savor them.

What does this have to do with art you may be asking yourself, well it has a lot to do with your brain and vision and artists are all about vision and how we see things and how we interpret what we see in our art. Take for instance the video below in episode 1, they ask you to identify if the gray squares are the same value..... watch the episode to see what the answer is.

There are also a lot of episodes that don't use vision as their main theme but it always seems interesting how our brain works together with our senses.

Another reason I love this show is that I have always loved magic and I am a big admirer of magicians. I actually took a magic class when I was in grade school and to this day I still collect and buy magic tricks.
I can't actually do any of the tricks because magic like painting takes practice and right now painting is more important to me to practice then practicing magic.

Watercolor painting is my magic at the moment. Watercolor artists are kind of like magicians, we take a blank sheet of paper and then hocus pocus you turn a blank sheet of paper into something that could be anything from a scene to an object. Pure magic if you ask me!

You can watch this series on Netflix but if you don't have Netflix you can also watch some of the episodes on Youtube.

I do hope you can watch and enjoy Brain Games like I have.
