BeckerArt FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter Sept. 19th, Travel with Watercolor

Published: Tue, 09/19/17

Hello

Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #123, Drawing

Hello from Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, where I will be teaching a 4 day workshop and on Thursday evening I will also be hosting a BeckerArt Paint Party at Dillman's, where I hear we are almost full.
I meet many of my students last night at the dinner that Dillman's puts together and it looks like I have a bunch of wonderful students that are eager to learn.

Next week I will be away on a workshop on the Danube River, starting in Vienna and ending in Munich, Germany.... hopefully I will have some time and wifi to get out his newsletter to you on time.

Since I am traveling so much in the next month in this newsletter I want to talk about how I travel with my watercolors and supplies.

NO CLASS at the Civic Center Libertyville, Thursday Sept. 21st
NO CLASS at The Antioch Fine Arts Foundation, Thursday Sept. 21st
NO CLASS at The BeckerArt Classroom in McHenry on Sept. 23rd

Traveling with Watercolors
A couple of days ago I started packing my bags and getting ready to travel to 3 different workshops in a row. When it comes to the watercolor supplies it is very easy to pack. Since I use Holbein watercolors I squeeze colors into my palette all the way to the top, let them sit to dry to a sticky, rubbery blob, then I close the palette and put it in my carry-on if I am flying. There is no need to bring tubes as I have enough watercolors squeezed into my palette to last me through tons of paintings and sketches. The reason I use Holbein and not another brand is because Holbein doesn't use ox gall in there paints, making it so it doesn't dry to a hard clump.

I also love traveling with watercolors because there isn't much to pack....palette with paints and a little water container, pencil, paper pad, brushes. Very limited amount of supplies that you can easily fit in a backpack or a fanny-pack.

I use to paint on my commute to work years ago..... check it out in the video I posted below.
