Norma's Obituary
Obituary
Norma Jeanne Wasicke, age 72, of Wauconda, passed away peacefully at her home on November 25, 2019 (11-25-2019 at 11:25 a.m.) in the arms of her soulmate, Alan, surrounded by her loving family and dear friends, Roy and Donna Lee. She was born on June 3, 1947, to Herbert and Gertrude (Bunker) Johnson in Chicago. Norma married the love of her life, Alan Wasicke, on February 3, 1968, at St. Edward’s Church in Chicago.
Norma was raised and resided in Chicago, where she began her family. In 1976, they relocated to Libertyville, before settling in Wauconda in 1989. Norma and Alan purchased family property on a forest preserve in Wauconda, where they built their dream home. Together, Norma and Alan created a loving, welcoming home, where they had the joy of watching their family flourish and Norma lived until the end of her days.
For many years, she was the very valued office manager of North Suburban Dermatology. An artist from head to toe, Norma enjoyed anything creative, including oil and chalk painting, pottery, stamping, and scrapbooking, but her focus and joy was her watercolor paintings. Norma decorated her home and many other homes with her beautiful artwork. She met and was blessed with many cherished friendships through the countless classes she attended at the Studio Art School in McHenry and her membership
within the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild.
In her adult years, Norma played volleyball and soccer, which she truly enjoyed. She was also involved in the Red Hat Society “Crimson Dolls” Chapter and played Bunco for many years.
Above all else, Norma loved and adored her family and any time spent with them. She was always ready to take them on in any boardgame and could beat anyone at Scrabble (but never gloated). She adored her grandchildren and took each of them on individual vacations, and doted upon her great-grandchildren. Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by any and all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of almost 52 years, Alan; her children, Kerrie (Bryan) Haverty and Brent (Eva) Wasicke; grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Sparber, Brent “AJ” Wasicke, Jr., Dana Wasicke, and Kaitlin, Kendall, and Kortnie Haverty; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Everett; and a brother, William (Barbara) Johnson.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her siblings, Margie, Collette, Donny, and Harvey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.Visitation will resume the following morning in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Celebration of Life.

NO Class at the BeckerArt Gallery in McHenry, Saturday, Nov. 30th 9:00 am to 11:30 am
In Memory of Norma Jeanne Wasicke
This last month I have been away from my class for over 3 week's and before I left for Duluth and Miami I posted on Facebook for everyone to Pray for my Friend Norma to get better as I have done for many years as Norma has many times had some health issues and has always bounced back with an attitude that always has amazed me. This time I thought it would be just the same and I would
see Norma next week because that's how it always was and we would have our Saturday morning talk and it would be grand like it always was. 3 days ago I received an email while vacationing in Florida and having Thanksgiving with my Daughter, that I just didn't want to believe... Norma passed away. This just couldn't be, but it was and my heart broke. I still don't want to believe it and I am so sad that I will not be able to attend the funeral as I am spending time with
my daughter here in Florida for her first Thanksgiving away from home.
Norma was a staple in my watercolor class for so many years I don't even remember when she started in my class in McHenry. All I can say is that she rarely missed a class and she was always the first one to class.
I will miss the wonderful chats we would have before class started and also the chats that I would have with Alan, Norma's amazing husband.
Many of the students in my class have been coming to my class for over 10 years and most really don't need my instruction but come I think more for the wonderful friendships that they have made in the class and the wonderful camaraderie among all the great student artists in the class. Norma had her table and seat in the front so she could watch over everyone in the class. The last 2 classes she wasn't there and it felt so strange, but like many times before we all couldn't wait until she
got back. Class will never be the same without Norma... who will be borrow from when there is something we need... Norma always had anything watercolor related that anyone may have forgotten to bring or some material that was new on the market, Norma had it!
When it came to Norma's paintings, she was just getting better and better after every painting she would paint. Below I have just a small sampling of Norma's paintings... she had become a master at painting in watercolor and all she ever wanted from me when in class was 3 things she could work on when she wasn't in class working on that weeks painting.
When Norma came to class she would always bring me 4 pieces of hard candy, 2 lifesavors cool mints and 2 Werther’s Original caramel hard candies. I still have a bunch saved up in my artist apron that I will leave in there so as to always remind me of Norma... Norma was always so generous with all her treats and art supplies.
After every painting was finished Norma would usually have me frame them and take images of them. The last painting she gave me to frame is the flower mountain one right below this writing. it is still wrapped up for her to take home at my studio... I am looking to see if I can get someone to come and take it to her funeral... it is such a wonderful painting and it will forever remind me of Norma and her wonderful paintings.
Heaven now has gained an amazing lady and the most wonderful watercolorist.
We will miss you Norma but will remember you always through your wonderful works of art!!!
David
