Hello
Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #271, Workshops in the USA
Hello from the 1000 Islands area of New York State. Yes, I am putting a lot of miles on my car but at this time of the pandemic and with all the video/computer and all the at-home teaching I have been doing, it feels very nice to do some workshops face to face even if those faces are covered with a mask.
In the last week, I have been teaching from Duluth to Clayton NY(1000 Islands NY), and will be heading back to Upper Michigan and then down to Goshen, Indiana. I have been taking many virus precautions and have washed my hands and sprayed enough disinfectant to hopefully have killed any virus in my path. My masks are starting to feel like a clothing article that I wear as if I were to put on socks. If wearing a mask and being very precautions lets me teach face to face then bring it on
because for me there is nothing better then teaching face to face, even if it is just a couple of covered faces.
Since I have been traveling so much it has been very difficult to schedule in my paint-a-longs. I have not given them up, I just haven't had the time to schedule them. I also have had a hard time getting a few sold paintings to the buyers, I am trying to get those paintings to you asap and I also will have to start shipping them with UPS as the USPS has been taking extremely long times to get paintings to their new owners.
Yes Class at the Civic Center in Libertyville with Sue MacFarlan will be August 6th from 1pm to 3:30pm
NO CLASS at the BeckerArt Studio in McHenry August 8th
Today I am writing to you from Clayton, NY which is close to the 1000 Islands on the St Lawrence River. It is from a workshop event that I am conducting that will be COVID ready and safe. Normally I do workshops around the world but this year with the pandemic I am only doing a handful of workshops and all of them are in the US.
Let me start by saying I love doing workshops around the world but after a couple of workshops this year I have come to really appreciate the US workshop a whole lot. These workshops are face to face at least 6 feet apart and wearing masks but really are some amazing workshops even if they are in small towns USA.
You don't need to go overseas to get a good workshop experience, you can go to the smallest town in the US and sometimes it feels just as good as going overseas. There are so many places in the US that I have come to discover that just blow me away and it's amazing that sometimes it can be in your own state and sometimes your own town.
Many times we forget to go around our own areas that we live near to see what some come for 100s of miles to see. Even if you have seen a local landmark that you take for granted sometimes go by it when there is good light on it or visit a nearby city and pretend you are a tourist and artist looking for that perfect painting. I bet you can find something even if you have looked at that landmark a hundred times before.
There are so many wonderful states in the US and the nice thing is you can first go to Google street view to see what that area has and brings to you as an artist, then when you go you will be super excited to find the perfect shot.
I realize that there are certain restrictions at this time for certain people from certain states to travel to other states, so before you go make sure you find out if you can travel to that state and most importantly stay safe!
Travel the US now, since you can't travel to any other country and get to all those US places you have been wanting to go to for quite some time. If you can or feel you really don't want to travel then remember there is always Google Maps and street view and the world wide web. Just keep exploring to find that perfect subject matter!
Stay Safe
David
Thousand Islands NY on the St Lawrence River is just a small part of such amazing scenes you can visit throughout the Great Lakes. You don't even need to go to the ocean to get that ocean feel, there are many lakes around the US that feel so much like an ocean with super fresh water that doesn't taste salty when you swim in it.

PAINT-A-LONG on Facebook Live
Not quite sure when I will be doing this paint-a-long live session this week.
I am in teaching a workshop this week near the 1000 Islands NY area, so I will probably pick a evening after class and find a plein-air spot and go live. Stay tuned to Facebook as I will probably announce it there.
