BeckerArt FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter March 31st, High-Key

Hello
Welcome to the FLOAT-YOUR-PIGMENT Newsletter #559
I'm back from the Kanuga Watermedia Workshops in Montreat, NC where I spent a week offline and focusing on painting. I only
painted 3-1/2 exercises, trying to learn how to use watercolor and gouache together to possibly come up with a new look. However, it will take a lot more than 3 paintings to achieve a new style. The trick to making any progress in learning to paint is to paint a lot.
The 3 images below are what I painted in the 4 days at Kanuga. The 4th one wasn't finishedso I will have to finish it in the near future.
At Kanuga I also learned how to make Watercolor and Gouache, a lesson in paint making will be coming soon. I first have to give it a try.

When composing your value sketch and looking for the large lights and darks of the scene, remember that sometimes you can go for the high-key values or the high contrast values. This is explained in the video
below.
Lynn was at Kanuga and taught me how to go over a wash as many times as needed and still make it look fresh... it's all in the details. Lynn won 1st Place, Gold Medal & that comes with the Dolphin Fellowship Award. Congrats Lynn!
